Feng Shui is known as "Kan-Yu" which means "The Law of Heaven and Earth." It is an ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. This is a discipline with guidelines that are compatible with many techniques of agricultural planning as well as internal furniture arrangements. Space, weather, astronomy, and geomagnetism are basic components of feng shui. This can have an effect on health, wealth, and personal relationships.
One of the basic principles of feng shui is the principle of five elements. The Five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Each element is represented by a specific color. Color is the easiest way to use the five elements principle to bring harmony into your space.
o Wood: Brown, Green
o Fire: Red, Strong Yellow, Orange, Purple
o Earth: Light Yellow, Sandy/ Earthy, Light Brown
o Metal: White, Gray
o Water: Blue, Black
The right placement of color is defined by the Ba-Gua, or the energy map of your space. Knowing how to use color can strengthen and balance your environment.
o Green is excellent for healing and improving health and balancing family life when used in the East.
o Blue is excellent in the North area to support and help you with your career plans; in the East for health/family; southeast for prosperity/abundance to water/nourish the Wood element.
o Pure white in the West will help support you in creative endeavors.
o Yellows in the South will support happy gatherings and good times.
Before bringing color into your home, be sure to study the light patterns throughout the day in your space. Also, be sure to see how well it works with the other inhabitants of your space, such as furniture, art, decorations objects, and other pieces.
